Meet the Marine Team: Christine Tordahl

For this week’s staff spotlight we are featuring one of our amazing educators, Christine Tordahl!

It’s always great getting more women involved in STEM, and our scouting events are some of my most memorable experiences at CCE.

Christine serves as Camp Director for our popular Sea Adventures Marine Camp, works with our Habitat Team to deliver Marine Meadows workshops, is always ready to help in the field with any of our projects, and has done some tremendous work inspiring the next generation of marine scientists through her work with schools and scouts.

Get to know more about Christine with this mini-interview we had with her recently!

  1. How long have you been with CCE Marine Program?
    6 years!

  2. What's your position title?
    Marine Educator

  3. What’s your favorite part of your job?
I really enjoy being outside, but working with Girl Scout troops has to be my absolute favorite. It’s always great getting more women involved in STEM, and our scouting events are some of my most memorable experiences at CCE.

  4. What part of your job would people find most surprising?
The amount of graphic design I’ve been doing during the pandemic!

  5. What is your favorite marine species?
    The nautilus.

  6. Why?
It’s really interesting how their chambers function similarly to ballast tanks on submarines - it’s a fun animal to watch swim!

  7. What do you do for fun outside of work?
I like to read, kickbox, compete in Spartan races, and volunteer with the Girl Scouts. I’ve been involved in scouting for over 25 years!

  8. What’s your favorite local seafood dish?
Tacos with scallops, shrimp, or tautog!

  9. If you could be any marine species what would you be, and why?
A sea turtle because if you say my first initial and my last name fast enough, it sounds like sea turtle (CTordahl) - and that’s how a lot of people mispronounce my last name. It’s a nickname I’ve learned to embrace!

Thank you for all that you do, Christine!

We’ll be back next week with another staff spotlight from the CCE Marine Team!
