TO BENEFIT CORNELL COOPERATIVE EXTENSION MARINE PROGRAM

CALL FOR ARTWORK

Background:

We are holding an open art call for local artists to create “Buoys for the Bays” in support of efforts to raise funds and awareness of Cornell Cooperative Extension Marine Program. Artists are invited to create marine-inspired art on repurposed fishing buoys, donated by our local fishing community partners. The resulting artwork will be curated by Kara Hoblin into an exhibit that will hang at Borghese Vineyard in Cutchogue. Buoys will and celebrated and auctioned on October 20, 2018.

Artwork Requirements:

We are seeking responses from local artists of all levels willing to create and donate “Buoys for the Bays” in support of CCE Marine Program. There is no fee to participate, all artists are welcome! Each artist may submit up to three works. Artwork must be created on the repurposed buoys, which can be picked up from the North Fork Art Collective in Greenport, CCE’s Marine Center in Southold, or Borghese Vineyard during their normal business hours beginning on September 12th. Please submit your artwork to one of the buoy pick up locations by October 15th to be included in the exhibit and auction.

Timeline:

September 14, 2018-October 15, 2018: Buoys and Registration Packages will be available at North Fork Art Collective, CCE’s Southold location or Borghese Vineyard during their normal business hours.

October 12th, 2018 at 6pm:  A “Buoys for the Bays Painting Party” will be held at Borghese Vineyard for novice artists wanting to receive guidance in painting a buoy by a professional artist.  For a $20 donation you will receive all painting materials and instruction, as well as a complimentary glass of Rose for the Bays! Buoys will be featured in the exhibit and opening celebration on October 20th and listed for sale in support of Cornell Cooperative Extension Marine Program’s “Back to the Bays Initiative”.

October 15, 2018:All artwork must be submitted, at any of the 3 pick up locations listed above

October 20, 2018: Opening Reception at Borghese Vineyard from 6-8pm, free and open to the public.All artists are encouraged to attend!

Buoys for the Bays is and initiative of Cornell Cooperative Extension Marine Program. Proceeds from buoy sales will directly support CCE’s efforts to improve the health of our local waters and marine ecosystems.
