BuDS Workshop: Making Eelgrass Nets

  • Shelter Island Public Library 37 North Ferry Road Shelter Island, NY, 11964 United States (map)

BuDS - “Buoy Deployed Seeding” - is one method of eelgrass restoration that our Habitat Team utilizes in the springtime, often in tandem with the fall “tortilla” plantings. Healthy eelgrass shoots are loaded into specialized nets and suspended over a designated area, usually a meadow in the process of being restored, so when the eelgrass is ready to release their seeds, they will fall in the area that will be support healthy growth.

Help CCE Marine staff mend and make nets for this year’s BuDS deployments!

This event will be held under the tent at the Shelter Island Public Library. Please register in advance.
