Horseshoe Crab Tagging with Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE)- The Southampton Press

Back to the Bays monitors horseshoe crabs during full and new moons as part of a state-wide effort. We monitor their population and inform policy to help sustain their population for generations to come, counting and tagging local horseshoe crabs as they come ashore to lay eggs.

“From mid-May to June, thousands of horseshoe crabs have gathered at Long Island’s bay beaches. It’s an incredible sight to see- made more so in the light of the full moon. The horseshoe crabs are there to bury their eggs in the sand.”
