A Message from Van

“Hi! I'm Van, I'm 15 years old and am running in the NYCRUNS Brooklyn Ice Cream Social Half Marathon on August 24th. With each day that I run, training for race day, breathing in the Earth's oxygen and striding along its surface, I understand the urgency that we must do all we can to protect the Earth before it's too late. This summer I've been working with Cornell Cooperative Extension Marine Program’s, Back to the Bays Initiative, which works to enhance the health of Suffolk County waterways. Through this experience, I have learned how important marine health is to both mitigating climate change and sustaining a good quality of life for plants, animals, and humans alike. Knowing how important this is, I believe we can make a difference and hope that you will support my run by donating to Back to the Bays on my fundraising page here. Thank you!”

Stewardship

the act of caring for our natural environment

This summer, Van has served as a proud participant in our new Back to the Bays Quogue Ambassador Program, piloted this year as part of our newly established Quogue Stewardship Site. Our Stewardship Sites and Stewardship program allow participants to take part in hand-on habitat and shellfish restoration work along-side CCE Marine staff and scientists.

We invite you to sign on as a Back to the Bays Steward and be part of this growing, community-based initiative. Your contributions will ensure this important work can continue and expand as we approach our 10 year anniversary!
